About

APRR (Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône) is a well-known company in France that manages motorway concessions awarded to the EIFFAGE group.

As such, the APRR group manages numerous IT processes related to tolls and all means of payment, as well as the sale of electronic toll tags, maintenance (CMMS), accounting, human resources, and the management of sub-concessionaires present at motorway service areas. This involves numerous daily file exchanges with various types of external partners.

Refocusing on the needs of the company

As their old MFT solution was coming to the end of its subscription period and they wanted to meet the file transfer management needs of several motorway companies, APRR’s technical teams decided to launch a market consultation to identify a solution that better met their requirements.

Familiar with file exchanges, APRR had previously been using a competing tool that presented certain installation and configuration difficulties. The company therefore wanted to rethink its solution in order to better meet its operational needs.

Several solutions were shortlisted during a call for tenders and then evaluated according to several decisive criteria:

  • A robust, reliable and easy-to-use tool for managing file transfers.
  • Compatibility with PeSIT and SFTP protocols, which are essential to APRR’s processes.
  • Secure exchanges via SSL and SSH encrypted channels.
  • Local support from expert, French-speaking teams available at every stage of the project.

An in-depth study of the MFT solutions market

Initially, APRR planned to renew its contract with its long-standing MFT provider. However, the IT teams wanted to explore their options further by conducting a comprehensive market comparison.

A dozen file transfer solutions were carefully reviewed. ‘Only four MFT platforms were truly capable of meeting our expectations,’ says Laurent Coquelet, Operations Engineer at the heart of the project.

APRR’s requirements went beyond technical functionality. Several specific regulations had to be complied with, such as:

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) concerning the flow of personal data.
The PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) for payment methods.

Among the finalists in this study were the BlueFinch-ESBD teams with the GoAnywhere MFT solution.

Many criteria perfectly matched APRR’s specifications, and the cost of the solution was also a significant advantage.

The effective and responsice support provided by the BlueFinch-ESBD teams during the migration

APRR had a consistent and well-managed MFT system. ‘We knew exactly what our functional expectations were when we switched to the GoAnywhere solution. The technical teams at BlueFinch-ESBD presented the platform to us in a clear manner, which made it much easier to get started,’ says Laurent.

The migration to GoAnywhere went smoothly for most partners. However, a few technical incidents did occur along the way: ‘BlueFinch-ESBD’s technical support was invaluable in identifying workarounds and helping our partners resolve the issues they encountered,’ he adds.

Today, the GoAnywhere solution is fully deployed and used by APRR and its partners, providing a secure, reliable and easy-to-administer environment.

A new era for file transfers

Initially, APRR teams had to relearn how to use an MFT solution. The change in philosophy and design between the old tool and GoAnywhere represented a real adjustment period. It took time to understand the platform and its transfer management logic.

However, GoAnywhere quickly proved to be easy to configure and use. Its file manipulation tools also offer powerful capabilities for more specific transfers.

”The distinction between sender and receiver sites confused me a little at first, but it turned out to be very beneficial: it clarifies roles and simplifies management. The same goes for the double-entry IDF (File Identifier) declaration during bidirectional exchanges,” explains Laurent.

The pre- and post-processing functions are particularly powerful, even if they remain little used at APRR, where processes are highly standardised and rarely require additional actions.

On a daily basis, GoAnywhere is mainly used to:

  • Supervise and verify nearly a thousand transfers per day.
  • Regularly create and integrate new partners.
  • Manage and renew security certificates.

APRR now recommends the GoAnywhere MFT solution, particularly for the success of the project, which also relies on the quality of the collaboration with the experts at BlueFinch-ESBD.

‘The teams in charge of the migration were extremely helpful and demonstrated real expertise. The engineers’ responsiveness and attentiveness enabled every technical issue to be resolved quickly, ensuring a smooth transition with no impact on our partners,’ concludes Laurent.

Today, APRR is taking full advantage of GoAnywhere and recommends the solution for its efficiency, reliability and the quality of the support provided.

’We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Laurent for this clear and detailed customer feedback.’
